Unified Cotton Price Across Bangladesh Ensures Farmer Confidence

Cotton is unique among crops in Bangladesh because farmers can sell it at a fixed price from planting to harvest. This is possible because the Bangladesh Cotton Ginners Association (BCGA), with support from the Cotton Development Board (CDB), buys all cotton directly from farmers, eliminating middlemen. Since cotton is not grown in rice fields, expanding cotton cultivation does not affect rice production. Farmers also receive comprehensive support, from seed distribution to harvesting, with CDB officials present in the field to guide them. Prices per kilogram are pre-determined in tripartite meetings between farmers, CDB, and BCGA, ensuring predictable income.

After purchase, cotton is processed and distributed among ginning mills based on their capacity. The ginners’ association also provides interest-free loans to cotton farmers, further supporting cultivation. This system minimizes farmer risk and ensures smooth marketing and production.
